As I sit here writing this, I can’t help but be overwhelmed with… gratitude. I’m grateful for every minute that we get to spend doing what we love. I love that I get to spend one of the happiest days with people that are so in love each other and want to join their lives together. I’m grateful for my Father’s love. I’m grateful for for the ability to document love as I see it.

Brett and Ashley met the summer after their sophomore year while attending the University of Alabama in Huntsville. One night after seeing “Across the Universe” together, Brett asked Ashley if he could kiss her, and she said “No”. Luckily, Brett kept pursuing Ashley, and after winning a bet a few months later, he finally got that kiss he had been after. After they had been dating for a little over a year, God called Ashley to the World Race- an incredible, but long journey around the world. Ashley wasn’t quite sure if Brett was “the one”, but Brett and Ashley both knew that God had something incredible in store for them. In August 2009, Ashley left, and Brett waited. Soon, Jesus brought Ashley home and they decided that they had been brought together to serve Him in a loving and wonderful life together.

Thank you, Brett & Ashley, for letting us be with you in this first part of your story together. We love you both!

Christin and I go way back. For those of you who know me well, know that I attended a private school until I was 14 years old. Making the transition to a public high school can be scary for kids who have been somewhat sheltered. The first day of school, I wasn’t so much afraid, but more so just trying to blend in with everyone else and more importantly, not get run over by the upper class men rushing off to their 2nd period class. :) When I finally made it to the classroom, out of breath from lugging a tremendous bag and schedule of classes in hand, I grabbed the first open desk I could find.

“Hi, i’m Christin! What’s your name?”
As you can imagine, the rest of the conversation went something like “hello-how-are-you-my-name-is-Lauren-I-just-transfered-here-what-does-your-class-schedule-look-like-and-oh-I-have-that-class-too!”
The rest is history. Christin + her twin sister Catherine became like sisters to me. We went to every football game, prom, homecoming, beach day, sleepovers, and endless movie dates together. When we graduated high school, I can remember hugging Christin tight while we both cried, filled with memories of the last 4 years, and the excitement of years to come. And now that she is a married woman, I am looking forward to the next chapter of her life and what an amazing woman she has become.

Thank you Christin, for reaching out to me that day, and sharing in so much of your life with me. You will always be one of my most cherished relationships. To Travis: Thank you for being the wonderful man that you are and for taking care of my Christin. She loves you with all that she is. I will never forget the day she called me to tell me that she had met the most handsome, amazing person and that she knew she was going to marry you someday.
I love you both!

Before I begin this post, I wanted to tell you about some exciting things going on at LKP. We have had lots of questions from you about the film we have been shooting as of recently. We had lots of wonderful comments and emails after we posted Katherine + Michael’s creekside shoot that was photographed in film, and we are so glad you enjoyed it! When I started practicing photography about 9 years ago, long before I even thought about making photography a career, all I had was an old 35 mm film camera. Digital still had not made in onto the scene. Digital became all the rage over the next few years, the ease of being able to process your photos quickly, without having to wait for them to come back from a lab. When Michael and I decided to photograph weddings, it made sense for us to shoot digitally. But I never really lost that thought process about shooting film, and so over the last several months, I have been turning to my film roots and I am loving the results. Film moves me in a way that I can’t explain. It has a romantic and organic feel for me, as well as produces similar results that we have come to love in our digital work. It’s definitely not for everyone, but we love it and we hope you do as well. With that being said, you will be seeing much more of our work in film. First and foremost, as artists, we feel compelled to continually evolve and produce amazing imagery that stirs your heart and tells a story as it happened. We hope to be able to tell your story through our photos!

More on all of these things later, but for now, we will start out with Jamal + Kali’s beautiful wedding in Savannah, Georgia. The wedding was at the Mansion on Forsyth Park, and we could not have asked for a better day. Jamal + Kali met while Jamal was playing basketball in Switzerland, and even though they didn’t hit it off immediately, they reconnected after a few years and a romance blossomed. Thank you, Kali + Jamal, for having us. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with you both and wish you many years of love and happiness!
